Can these panels be installed in a suspended grid without additional support wires?

Yes, for standard drop ceilings. Each panel weighs approximately 10.5 pounds, and the four included mounting clips distribute the weight evenly across the grid T-bars. In seismic zones or areas with vibration, local codes may require additional support wires, but for a typical installation in a stable ceiling grid, the included hardware is sufficient. I installed all 36 panels without supplementary support and they have not shifted or sagged.

How do these perform with a motion sensor for automatic on/off?

I tested one panel with a Lutron Maestro MS-OPS5H occupancy sensor on the 0-10V dimming circuit. The panel turned on instantly when motion was detected with no delay. The one catch is that if the sensor cuts power entirely rather than sending a 0-10V signal, the panel defaults to full brightness on restart. For automatic dimming rather than on/off control, use a sensor that sends a 0-10V signal rather than switching line voltage.
